The Beacon Journal: KORN Rock Out While OZZY OSBOURNE Wheezes
July 23, 2003Malcolm X Abram of Ohio's The Beacon Journal reviewed Ozzfest 2003's Tuesday (July 22) stop at Cleveland's Blossom Music Center.
"Nu-metal kings KORN kept the crowd in the palms of their hands, inspiring mosh pits on the lawn and raising the energy level to the highest point of the day," he wrote. "Every song was met with intense approval and the braided quintet returned the favor with an equally intense, loud and tight 50-minute set.
"Following KORN was no mean feat, and despite 30 years of metal songs to draw from, OZZY OSBOURNE didn't always live up to his legend. At times the 54-year-old's age and years of abuse showed.
"Working with a bad leg that added a hobble to his step, Osbourne performed an uneven set. For every flash of greatness, including a flaming version of 'I Don't Know', and a taut 'Sweet Leaf'/'Children of the Grave' medley, there were less scintillating offerings such as a shaky 'Iron Man' and at times, Osbourne seemed winded.
"He was in good spirits, informing the audience that his wife was officially cancer-free ('my baby's fine') and he's still got the will, but his body may not be able to find a way much longer." Read more.
